In June of 2020, we lost our two dogs, Tigger and Kaya, to cancer 3 days apart from each other. The blow to the family was devastating. By Aug we had decided to look for two new rescues in need of a home. After months of searching we had no luck and very little support or compassion from some of the agencies we reached out to. We were put in touch with Fur Bae. From the onset they were kind and compassionate and understanding about what we had been through with the loss of Tigger and Kaya. As fate would have it Fur Bae had at one of their foster families a bonded pair of Saluki Lab crosses. Enter Tommy and Lady. We took a trip over to Vancouver to meet the pair and were first impressed by the kindness of the Fur Bae staff who greeted us. After a short hello we were introduced to Tommy and Lady. Our first meeting was both heartwarming and heart breaking as I was greeted with a hug from Tommy and very fast wagging tail and kisses from Lady. After a short walk with Tommy and Lady we knew this is what we all needed.
The initial few weeks were spent feeling each other out and getting into a routine. At first Tommy was not big on the walks, sporting a rather hefty belly, he was content to sleep away his days on the furniture. But with a little love and persuasion we began our daily ritual of walking at 6 am, going to work for the day with a walk at lunch. And then ending the work day with an evening walk. Weekends are spent out in woods exploring Vancouver Island with their new friends. And now after a couple of months both Tommy and Lady are lean, healthy and very much loved dogs. I cannot say enough kind words about the staff from Fur Bae dog rescue. The service they provide and manner in which they provide it are both top notch and amazing. We cannot thank you enough for the joy you have brought us and for taking the time to care for these and so many other dogs. You are truly caring human beings, thank you.
